My name is Ed Leighton-Dick.  I make software.

Welcome!  The Data Files is a creative outlet for me and a way for me to share what I’ve learned with a wider audience.  I hope you find something here that helps you.

I fell madly in love with code in 1983 and have been creating software ever since.  I started professionally in IT in 1991 and have since worked as a help desk technician, developer, development manager, system administrator, and database administrator using a wide variety of languages and platforms.  From 2006 to 2014, I worked as the database administrator for a mid-sized company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  In 2014, I started a consulting practice, Kingfisher Technologies, focusing on SQL Server performance, architecture, and security.  I have a penchant for performance tuning, data integration, and business intelligence.

In my spare time, I lead I-380 PASS, the local chapter of the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS) and organize our local SQL Saturday events.  I’m also a frequent volunteer with PASS in other capacities, including Midwest Regional Mentor.  I speak frequently at local, regional, and national events, including user groups, SQL SaturdaysIowa Code Camp, and the PASS Summit.  I hope to do more writing in the near future.
